Aston Villa snatch draw against Liverpool with incredible late Duran double
Villa earn a point at Anfield
Jhon Duran scored twice in the final 10 minutes as Aston Villa came from behind to snatch a point against Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night. The draw means that Villa will leapfrog Liverpool into fifth place in the Premier League table if they win their game in hand.
Liverpool took the lead through Harvey Elliott's header in the first half, but Villa equalised through Ollie Watkins shortly after the break. Liverpool regained the lead through Mohamed Salah's penalty, only for Duran to equalise again with a stunning free-kick.
Duran then completed his brace with a fortuitous goal in the 89th minute. The Colombian forward's shot from outside the box took a wicked deflection off Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and looped over goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The result is a major boost for Villa's hopes of finishing in the top six this season. Liverpool, meanwhile, are now winless in their last three Premier League games and their hopes of securing a top-four finish are fading.
